I’ve been with Luby’s since 1983, and after all these years, I still get excited setting up the line, watching everything come together, opening the doors, and seeing people waiting to come in. It’s all about the food, and we still have fun here. If your job isn’t fun, it’s a long day.

I’ve worked with good people throughout my career, and I believe the store emulates the General Manager. If the General Manager brings energy and everybody is having a good time, that creates a good vibe. Here, we are a family. I take care of my people, try to do the right thing, and want them to be glad I’m here and want to work with me.

Mr. Luby said a long time ago, “You’ve got to earn your respect every day.” I still believe that. You’re only as good as the last meal someone had here, and when we get the opportunity, we make it right. We’ve been through some tough times, but today we’re one of the busiest stores in the company, and I’m proud of this store.

What makes me happy? A line out the door looking for more. And when I’m not at Luby’s, I love to fish. That’s my getaway.
