COMMUNITY
Giving back to the communities where we live and work is one of Luby's core values. In many of our markets, the Luby's restaurant serves as an essential part of the community as a central gathering place for charitable groups to meet, or a rallying point where people come together to help others in a time of crisis. In whatever manner possible, we strive to identify ways our Company and our employees can give back and be involved in the community.

“We are committed to the Company's tradition of good citizenship, established nearly 60 years ago by the Luby family, of contributing to our communities,”
said Chris Pappas, President and CEO.

March of Dimes - WalkAmerica®
Luby's has been a proud Texas state-wide sponsor of the March of Dimes for WalkAmerica® 2006 and 2007. The March of Dimes is the non-profit organization leading the way in the fight against premature birth. Its mission is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects and infant mortality. Founded in 1938, the March of Dimes funds programs of research, community services, education, and advocacy to save babies.

In conjunction with our sponsorship, Luby's introduced a new program, designed to provide customers an opportunity to contribute to the March of Dimes at all Luby's restaurants. Luby's also supported WalkAmerica® events throughout Texas, including Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, and Austin, by catering lunch for Family Teams as well as serving as the official water sponsor at a number of sites. Luby's donated 10 percent of all catering orders to the March of Dimes on behalf of its walk customers. Additionally, our employees raised money and participated in WalkAmerica® events across the State of Texas.

Hurricane Katrina Relief
Following the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, Luby's offered a 10% discount at all of its Texas locations for one month, and collected donations at every Luby's restaurant for the Bush-Clinton Hurricane Relief Fund. Additionally, Luby's employees donated funds to the Red Cross, which the company matched. Luby's supported the Astrodome and Kelly Air Force Base shelters with water and food.

Hurricane Rita Relief
When Hurricane Rita hit the Texas/Louisiana coastline in September 2005, Luby's employees did a tremendous job of preparing for the storm. After the storm made landfall Luby's quickly began re-opening stores. In many areas affected by the storm, Luby's was the first restaurant open, providing those in need with hot food and shelter.

Luby's also provided aid during the Hurricane evacuation process, including re-opening a closed location in Burleson, Texas, to assist official coping with the massive evacuation effort during the days preceding and following the hurricane's landfall. The Company made the store's facilities available for officials and emergency personnel, and provided an air-conditioned rest stop for the general public traveling on crowded highways. In Orange, Texas, FEMA and the Red Cross set up camp for six weeks at another closed cafeteria, using the Luby's parking lot as a headquarters to pass out relief checks and bring mobile homes and restrooms for evacuees' use.

Luby's believes it is our civic obligation and duty to provide service and give back to our communities especially in times of need.
